Riding my childhood bicycle. No fear, no gear. Age 23 was my final ride, until 30 years later.
Sporting a helmet, gloves on a 21 speed Schwinn, looking like a pro. Rebalancing was difficult, yet doable. Gaining momentum, I over-focused on the shifting gear, swerved and crashed to the pavement.
Lying in a heap- shaken, bruised, knee bleeding, I made a vow.
Walk the bike and admit defeat. Instead the adrenalin inside my damaged body told me to try again. I had fallen, did get up and ride with pride.
Next time, however, I'll definitely wear bubble wrap.

  6. It's been years since I've ridden a bike. I was never very good at riding up curbs (fell every time), so I congratulate you and I wish I could ride one.

  9. I never learned to ride a bike. I reckon it was down to my total lack of balance! However, every time I hear or read the word Schwinn I immediately think of Stephen King and 'It'. The bike that brought Audra back :) Cool read :)

  11. I think I would want to wrap myself in bubble wrap plus tie a pillow to my butt. It has been a long time since I rode a bike. The last time, I fell and a whole group of little kids laughed at me. I was so embarrassed, I haven't rode since. To bad they don't have bubble wrap for one's pride. :P Great post!!
